Flagstaff, here we come!

Life has a way of sending you surprises. Just when you've put down roots and think you are going to be somewhere for a while, your whole life gets shaken around. Sometimes in bad ways, but sometimes in good. Here is our BIG change...

We are moving to Flagstaff, Arizona!! Ben has been offered a position as CFO for a community healthcare center in Flagstaff. Plenty proud ah him! It is a great opportunity, so off we go!

As if I’ve not been busy enough with work and kids and summer, add to that I now have to get (and keep) the house in a “ready to sell” condition. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

So what do we know about Flagstaff?

1. For starters, it is only 2 hours drive from Mummy & Dadz – although we hate to leave them behind, it will be nice to be able to see them periodically.

2. It is much smaller than Phoenix but everyone who lives there loves it and says it is a great place to raise a family.

3. The Native American population is HUGE – some 40% of residents – not so with the Black population which is reportedly “significantly lower” than Phoenix. Damn. I didn’t think it could get any lower than that.

4. It is more expensive, with houses averaging 35% higher than Phoenix. Last weekend when we were in Flag, we went to a couple of Open Houses, and the style is quite different than the houses here. Huge outdoor decks and large lots in the seasoned homes.

5. It started as a railroad town and has grown from there. Note to self: try not to buy a home anywhere near the railroad tracks. Last Summer we stayed in a hotel where I spent a very sleepless night listening to the train going past every 30 mins.

6. Flagstaff is green and beautiful, with tall Ponderosa pines everywhere. They have 4 seasons…that will definitely be an adventure for us desert dwellers (that's what I get for my earlier comment about digging out of snow...sigh!)

The girls and I will be staying here and Ben will commute until we sell our house. It will definitely be a busy time, but we've prayed about this and see that God would not have opened this door unless it was part of His plan. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations Ben. I can imagine though JUdy what trying time the whole selling and moving is going to be. I remember Mommy basically having to do it all herself when we moved to Eritrea. Hey can't wait to see your new home and hope all goes well. It's going to be hard not seeing you everyday when I come up there.
P.S. Check out flylady again. It has really, really helped me and I think it can with all you have to do now.
