Drama last evening at our home. I was just calling the girls to dinner and barely spotted Megan shoving some unknown object up her nose. Just as I was about to say, "NO!" she began screaming her head off. I checked with the flashlight and could barely see something green and plastic-y stuck way up in her nasal passages. Immediately grabbed the phone and called the nurse, while simultaneously trying to calm Megan and find my "What to Expect" book (miraculously, it was on the bookshelf). Both the book and the nurse advised us to go directly to urgent care. We quickly called Mummy and dropped Samantha at her house. Ben met us at the E.R. and we began the LONG wait to see a doctor. Megan kept trying to convince us that she was fine and that we should just leave - understandable, since at her last doctor's visit she got a very painful penicillin shot. Thankfully, the doctors were so quick once we finally got in, quickly removing a chewed-up, green thingy that looked like a piece of craft foam. $100 later we were on our way home, exhausted but happy that everything was resolved so quickly.
On the way home Megan told me that she'd found the thingy in the backyard. I can just imagine her thinking: "Hmmm. This is on the ground. No-one wants it but maybe I can do something with it. I'll just chew it for a minute or so. Now that I've got it all chewed into a nice pointy shape, I think I'll just stick it up my nose."
Oddly enough, all the nurses and doctors we talked to at the hospital assured us that this kind of thing happens more often than you'd think. Kids! Gotta love them!
