The past few days have been quite hectic. Tonight I actually managed to get the girls fed, bathed and homework done, and I'm finally getting the chance to post to my blog while they watch Stuart Little 2. (A rare mid-week treat - gotta love that mouse!)
So here is what has been keeping me so busy this week. Last weekend I learned of an opportunity to do freelance resume writing for a company called ResumeEdge. If selected, I'll be able to work my own hours from my home PC. I submitted my resume and was "invited to test" for the position.
Well, what a test! I received a 7-page resume for a Network Engineer...7 pages of details of what this guy has been doing for the past 20 years. My test is to muddle through the technical jargon and alphabet soup of network technologies (ISDN, DSL, VPN, IPSec, the list goes on) and come up with a resume that best markets his skills and abilities. I've been so focused on this that I'm dreaming about networks and switches, and getting up in the wee hours to work while the girls sleep.
The best thing about trying to secure this assignment is that I realized two things. First, I'm truly excited to get back to work as long as I don't have to compromise my family in the process. Second, I'm completely at peace with sharing my hopes whether or not they materialize. In the past I would have been reluctant to tell anyone that I'm trying for this assignment, for fear of jinxing it, or worse, having to say that I'd failed. I learned something about myself through this - that I know now that it may be better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.
Stay tuned.
